KUALA LUMPUR: The second edition of the 2024 Titiwangsa Futsal Tournament for the Johari Ghani trophy is special this year as it was also held to promote the spirit of unity in conjunction with this month's Malaysia Day celebration.
Titiwangsa Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said that based on the overwhelming response to this year's tournament, he wants to expand the event next year to feature other sports, including e-sports.
Speaking to Buletin TV3, Johari, who is also the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, said the event for next year should include volleyball, badminton, and other sports.
"We organise this programme every year. For next year, I have requested that they include various sports, including volleyball, netball, takraw, badminton, e-sports, and more.
"I want them to organise these activities to celebrate Malaysia Day, as we aim to engage more young people in this area in the celebrations," he said.
Earlier, Johari launched the tournament, which was held at Sports Planet in Ampang near here.
A total of 35 teams, including Media Prima Bhd, took part in the tournament. Media Prima won against the Titiwangsa FC Youth team with a score of 4-1.
In the finals, MPP Subzone 6 claimed the overall championship, defeating their opponents from Cendana Perkasa A via a penalty shootout, 2-1.
