KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 500 children and 16 schools in Sungai Buloh have received education assistance from Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR).
Five secondary schools in the area were granted RM50,000 through the Tuisyen Rakyat programme, while 11 primary schools received RM55,000 in aid.
Additionally, the 500 schoolchildren received school supplies worth RM50,000 under the YBR Education Incentive Programme, conducted in collaboration with the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry.
"This assistance aims to help schools enhance student achievement through educational programmes and cash aid to students from the 'asnaf' group and B40 families, to improve the academic performance of students for the 2024 school session," Bank Rakyat said in a statement.
The aid distribution was officiated by Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, at Dewan MBPJ in Section 7 Kota Damansara.
Present were YBR trustee board member Young Syefura Othman, YBR general manager Syaiful Rizal Abdul Ghani, head of YBR operations Mohd Mukhti Abd Rahman, and head of corporate administration Khairul Na'im Arifin.
"I am very grateful that YBR continues to support students and schools in Sungai Buloh. This aid indirectly helps to ease the financial burden of households by providing school supplies to children," Ramanan said.
Young Syefura, who is also Bentong member of parliament, added that the assistance would help motivate the children.
She said the Tuisyen Rakyat programme would help schools offer free extra classes, particularly to Form 5 students preparing the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination.
So far this year, YBR has disbursed RM2.94 million in aid to 24,306 students and 226 schools in 65 locations.
