MACC detains husband of former GLC exec over worker supply contract

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a company owner to assist in investigations into alleged abuse of power in securing a worker supply contract worth approximately RM1.4 million.

Sources revealed that the suspect, in his 30s, who is also the husband of a former executive of a government-linked company (GLC), was detained at around 4pm today when he appeared to give a statement at the Terengganu MACC office.

The arrest of the man follows the earlier detention of his wife, who has been remanded for six days since Tuesday to assist in the investigation.

"The woman, in her 40s, and the main suspect, allegedly committed the offence in 2019 by using her position to propose and support her husband's company in obtaining the worker supply contract worth around RM1.4 million," the source said.

Meanwhile, Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the arrest, stating that the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

He added that the suspect will be held for 24 hours and will be released on MACC bail once his statement has been recorded.

Previously, the media reported that a former GLC executive was detained to assist in investigations into abuse of power and false claims.

The woman is suspected of abusing her position to support the appointment of her husband's company to secure a worker supply contract worth approximately RM1.4 million.

Additionally, the suspect is believed to have conspired with another woman, a company owner in her 50s, by submitting documents containing false details related to Covid-19 screening tests and the supply of plastic items, each valued at RM2,000.
