KUALA LUMPUR: Former two-time prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today expressed admiration and pride over the developments in Putrajaya, saying its beauty and orderliness are unmatched by any city or country.
Dr Mahathir, who was instrumental in the creation of the country's administrative capital, said he must congratulate the officials who developed Putrajaya to what it is today.
He added that Malaysians could be proud of the town's beauty and its impressive buildings.
"It is truly a garden city. The streets are lined with flowers and beautifully trimmed hedges. Shady trees line the roads.
"The parks and gardens are well kept and landscaped. The administrators clearly have good taste and appreciate beauty.
"The buildings lining the central boulevard are imposing. Even the food courts are well-designed and maintained," he said on his X account.
The area was first proposed as the government's administrative centre on Oct 12, 1994, and construction began on April 16, 1995.
As one of three Federal Territories in the country, Putrajaya is managed by the Putrajaya Corporation, which was established under the Putrajaya Corporation Act 1995. Putrajaya was declared a Federal Territory on Feb 1, 2001.
