PUTRAJAYA: Discussions on the compensation for the family of an Indian tourist who was swallowed by a sinkhole in Masjid India will be held at the cabinet meeting this Wednesday.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa said this after it was announced that the search and rescue operation for G. Vijaya Lakshmi, 48, had ended yesterday.
"InsyaAllah, next week we will have a cabinet meeting and I will bring it up," she said briefly in a press conference.
It was previously reported that the government was ready to consider providing compensation to the family of the Indian woman who went missing in the sinkhole incident in Jalan Masjid India on Aug 24.
Efforts to locate the woman had failed and it was reported that the SAR operation would now take be a search and recover mission.
Zaliha said her team had met with the victim's family, and they had agreed for the search efforts to be called off.
She added that she had also discussed the matter with Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia B.N. Reddy, who expressed appreciation for the efforts made since the first day.
