JASIN: Another suspect believed to be involved in the fatal parang attack on an excavator driver yesterday was arrested last night.
Jasin district police chief, Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Jamil Radzi, said that the 21-year-old man was apprehended by a police team at around 11pm in Jasin Bestari, here.
"With this latest arrest, a total of four people have now been detained, all of whom are believed to be involved in the attack.
"The suspect was brought to the Jasin Magistrate's Court today for a remand application, and the remand order has been granted for seven days, starting today until Sept 2," he said.
Ahmad Jamil added that efforts to track down several other suspects are still actively being carried out by the police.
"The manhunt for several more suspects believed to be involved in the incident is ongoing.
"Initial investigations indicate that the suspect and the victim knew each other, but the exact motive for the attack is still under investigation," he said.
Yesterday, the media reported that an excavator driver was killed in what is believed to have been a machete attack by a group of masked men in front of a barber shop in Rim, here, the night before.
In the incident, which occurred around 9pm, the group of men also chased the victim while he was en route to Jasin Hospital for treatment.
The victim passed away while receiving treatment at the hospital.
