KUALA LUMPUR: "She screamed for help before she fell (in) and after that there was silence."
This was what the husband of the woman who was swallowed by a sinkhole near Masjid India had to say about the tragedy which befell his wife this morning.
The man, in his 40s, could not bring himself to speak further on the incident.
A search and rescue operation is currently underway for the 48-year-old woman, an Indian national after she fell into the sinkhole while walking in the area.
Ninety personnel from various agencies along with K-9 tracker units are part of the operation.
Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman has said the area is secure though discussions are ongoing on the need to close off the area.
The authorities are also using an excavator to dig a wider area where the sinkhole occurred to search for the victim.
The sinkhole, located near the Malayan Mansion on Jalan Masjid India, is about eight metres deep.
