2nd body found after Kuala Kemaman boat capsize

CHUKAI: A second body from a fishing boat that capsized near Kuala Kemaman early today (Sunday) has been found in the afternoon.

The victim, identified as Shahril Ismail, 50, was found floating in the water around 1pm.

Kemaman police chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said Shahril's body was retrieved and taken to a search-and rescue operation control post at 2.45pm.

He said earlier, the body of Siti Zaimah, 29, was found at 7am along with five survivors.

"We are still searching for two more victims identified as Aina Husna Mohamad Husani, 25, and Yusof, 66, in an operation involving various agencies.

"The bodies of both victims have been taken to Kemaman Hospital for identification.

"I have also been in contact with the health authorities and am trying to arrange for an autopsy to be conducted this afternoon," he said here today.

Earlier, it was reported that a woman had drowned, while three others were feared missing after a fishing boat that they charted for a trip was hit by a barge.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency deployed an aircraft in the search-and-rescue operation to locate the three anglers in waters off Kuala Kemaman.

Kemaman Maritime Zone director Commander Ariffin Ghazali said the fishing boat carrying nine people, including the skipper, capsized after being struck by the barge.
