IPOH: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has yet to receive any legal notice from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) regarding the party's decision to file legal action to contest his ruling on the seat status of its six former members.
He said as of today, he has not received any communication from the party's legal advisors.
"If we look at the constitution, the Speaker's decision related to the Dewan is final. However, as Malaysians, we have other avenues, and that avenue is the court.
"So it is every Malaysian's right to bring it to court. For me, that is their right, and they can exercise it.
"But I haven't heard anything further, the statement issued by the PN (Perikatan Nasional) chairman said they will (take legal action) but I don't know. I don't want to comment on that, it is the right of every citizen," he added.
On July 10, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the party had received a letter from Johari stating that the seats held by the six MPs would not be vacated.
The six MPs had their Bersatu membership revoked after they declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last year.
On June 20, Bersatu submitted notices to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker's office concerning the status of these six MPs, whose memberships had been revoked by the party.
It was reported by the Malay Mail that following Johari's decision, the party would consult its lawyers and file legal action to contest the Speaker's ruling if necessary.
