KOTA KINABALU: Water supply at Universiti Malaysia Sabah's campus here has been fully restored after years of frequent disruptions.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor said today daily readings taken by the Development and Maintenance Department showed that the supply of treated water from the Sabah Water Department is "stable and sufficient".
"Water supply has been improving since January 2024, and is now stable, consistent and adequate at an average of five million litres per day," he said in a statement.
The construction of tube wells funded by the federal government has been fully completed and they are functioning well, he added.
Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud had said on June 9 that the RM5 million project, initially to be completed in March, was delayed due to design changes.
"The tube wells are an alternative source to reduce the impact on students in the event of supply disruptions due to scheduled maintenance or unavoidable incidents," said Kasim.
He said the university is no longer facing any water supply issues.
