Pas-Gerakan GE16 cooperation at stake over school donation row?

KOTA BARU: A top Pas leader today said he is disappointed with the stance taken by Parti Gerakan Malaysia on the issue surrounding donations from a liquor company to schools.

Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari did not rule out the possibility that both parties would not work together in the 16th General Election if Gerakan remained consistent with such a stance.

"Gerakan's official stance on the issue related to donations to schools is very disappointing.

"If this is what Gerakan consistently showcases, it is not impossible that we cannot be together in GE16," he said in a statement on Facebook.

It was reported that Gerakan had made the same stance with DAP that alcohol or tobacco companies should not be prevented from donating funds to Chinese vernacular schools.

Its president Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau claimed that this is because Chinese vernacular schools have not been given sufficient funds by the federal government to operate.

Lau said all the facilities and amenities currently considered the best in Chinese vernacular schools are the result of external funding contributions, not only from large companies but also from small traders and hawkers.
