IPOH: The state government is encouraging its government-linked companies (GLCs) to open childcare centres in their buildings.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the number of career women was increasing, making it crucial to establish such centres at GLCs as well.
"After returning to work from three months of maternity leave, we always think about where we want to place our babies.
"Following several unfortunate incidents (of baby abuse), we need to entrust our babies to trusted babysitters who possess valid qualifications.
"We currently have a childcare centre at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan (the state government administrative building), and we also have GLCs such as LAP, SADC, PKNP and others," he told reporters after attending a town hall meeting with Perak's female community.
As such, Saarani encouraged GLCs to establish their own childcare centres, suggesting that those experienced and certified in Early Childhood Care and Development Management could work there.
"I believe this initiative will encourage women to focus on their work and enhance their productivity.
"They will feel at ease knowing their babies are in good hands, directly impacting their work productivity.
"Therefore, the state government has agreed in principle that GLCs should initiate these centres themselves," he said.
