KUALA TERENGGANU: The Immigration Department arrested 15 illegal immigrants in raids on nine business premises and residences of foreign nationals in the Setiu and Besut districts.
The state's Immigration Deputy Director (Control) Mat Amin Hassan said the operations — called Op Sapu and Op Selera — led to the detainment of 32 foreign nationals.
Mat Amin said among the detainees were four children, including three siblings aged between two or three years and a baby girl of 10 months. He added that the siblings were Indonesian while the baby was a Myanmar national.
Mat Amin said the operation was conducted from 8pm last night to 6am this morning.
"We detained 32 foreign nationals, and 15 of them did not have valid travel documents, had overstayed and misused their passes.
"The 15 comprised seven Indonesian nationals, five Myanmar nationals and three Thai nationals.
"All detainees were transferred to the Ajil Immigration Depot for further investigation."
Mat Amin said 877 illegal immigrants and 22 employers and premises owners were arrested in 494 operations conducted statewide this year so far.
"In enforcement operations conducted until yesterday, we detained 4,733 foreign nationals, and after inspection, 877 were found to have committed immigration law and regulation offenses."
