KOTA BARU: The state Immigration Department has rounded up 30 illegal immigrants in a two-day operation in Kota Baru and Pasir Puteh that ended on Tuesday.
Its deputy director (management) Nik Akhtarulhaq Nik Abdul Rahman said that the illegal immigrants were arrested for various offences, including entering the country without documents, overstaying, and misusing their social visit passes.
He added that the illegal immigrants arrested during the operation, dubbed Ops Kutip/Ops Sapu, were from Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, and Thailand.
"In Kota Baru, the operations were carried out at a shopping complex, a convenience store, and an iron workshop located along Jalan Kuala Krai and Salor.
"In Pasir Puteh, the operation was conducted at a house in Permatang Sungkai and a food stall in Melor," he said in a statement.
He said all illegal immigrants arrested during the operation were sent to the department's detention centre in Tanah Merah.
