Johoreans unite in jubilation to watch Sultan Ibrahim's installation as 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong

JOHOR BARU: Johoreans gathered in large numbers to watch the live broadcast of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim's installation as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The event, which transcended differences in religion, race, and age, saw Johoreans coming together to celebrate the historic moment of their beloved sultan's installation ceremony.

Johoreans assembled as early as 8am, to catch the ceremony broadcast live on large screens placed at 26 parliamentary across the state, organised by the state information department.

In Pulai, over 50 residents joined their member of parliament Suhaizan Kayat at the viewing party held at its national information centre (Nadi) at Taman Cempaka, here.

Among them were photographer Thomas Yong ,58, who could not contain his excitement.

Yong said as a teenager some 40 years ago, he witnessed His Majesty's late father Sultan Iskandar Sultan Ismail's installation as the eight Yang di-Pertuan Agong, in 1984.

"Now, I get to witness his son's installation. As a Johorean, I am very proud," he said

He added the unity among the people especially in Johor, is evident as people

gathered to watch the live broadcast.

"I am confident under His Majesty's reign, Malaysia and Johor will further progress.

Student Muhammad Qayyum Abdullah, 11, who was eager to join the viewing party woke up at 6am, today.

He was at the Pulai viewing party with his friends.

"We have seen Sultan Ibrahim in person when he visited our housing estate in Taman Cempaka in the past.

"This is the first time I am watching a face I recognised installed as the king… it feels like a family member being crowned," he said beaming with pride.

Retired government servant A. Soaganathan, 69, said the installation is extra special for Johoreans, as their sultan is now the king.

He said His Majesty's administration style will definitely elevate Malaysia to greater heights, while uniting its people.

Meanwhile, Suhaizan said the Pulai parliamentary viewing party saw all walk of life including senior citizens and children, who came together and witnessed the historical moment.

"Its extra special for Johoreans who witnessed our beloved ruler's installation ceremony," he said.
