KUALA LUMPUR: Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has lodged a police report against an investment scheme operating on the Telegram application for using his name and picture for promotional purposes.
The Setiawangsa member of Parliament, in a social media post on X, said that the report was lodged by his press secretary at a police station in Shah Alam on July 3.
"The police report was made to deny my involvement with the account and to protect my good name," wrote Nik Nazmi.
The post was accompanied by a copy of the police report and a screenshot of the Telegram group.
According to the police report, the press secretary said the operator of the investment scheme not only used Nik Nazmi's name and picture for promotional materials but also included his name in the URL of the Telegram group: http://t.me/NAZMI_SAHABATINVEST.
"On behalf of the minister, I am lodging this report to protect the reputation of the minister and his office.
"The minister has nothing to do with the investment scheme," the complainant said in the report.
