KOTA BARU: Students and staff at a secondary school here were screened for typhoid fever or flu-like symptoms following an outbreak involving five students.
The district health officer advised students via a circular that the screening test was designed to detect typhoid symptoms, such as fever, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, vomiting, nausea, constipation, headache, exhaustion and loss of appetite."
The test would be conducted in stages starting today, he said.
He said typhoid symptoms detected since May 7 had prompted the state Health Department to conduct screening tests on the school's students and staff.
Yesterday, it was reported that five of 22 students at a secondary school in Kota Baru suffered from typhoid.
State Health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the 17 other students were being screened at Tumpat Hospital and Tengku Anis Hospital in Pasir Puteh.
