Two retired teachers hurt in car-lorry collision

KANGAR: Two retired teachers were injured when their Proton Wira was hit by a lorry in Jalan Santan today.

Rahalin Abdul Rahman, 65, and Rosli Mad Din, 67, sustained minor injuries in the crash about noon.

Deputy police chief Superintendent Baeyah Abdul Wahab said the lorry was travelling from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Arau to Sungai Batu Pahat.

She said the lorry driver had swerved to avoid hitting another car which had suddenly turned into a road without using its turn indicator.

"The car tried to turn right at a close distance, causing the lorry driver to panic, hit his brakes suddenly, and swerve to avoid the car.

"However, the lorry driver failed to avoid hitting another car, a Proton Wira, coming from the opposite direction. The collision caused significant damage to the car carrying the two men," she said in a statement.

Baeyah added that the lorry driver was not injured in the incident.

"Rahalin suffered head and forehead injuries, while Rosli sustained injuries to his right elbow, head and right fingers," she said.

She said the victims were taken to Tuanku Fauziah Hospital in Kangar for further treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
