PM: 'If it were up to me, I want the police to answer tomorrow' [WATCH]

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has affirmed his stance of non-interference in police investigations, particularly in cases that have captured widespread public attention.

These cases notably include the recent acid attack on national football player Faisal Halim and the tragic murder of six-year-old autistic Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin.

Addressing concerns from the public regarding the progress of these investigations, Anwar said: "If it were up to me, I want the police to answer tomorrow."

"But there is a process and (the investigation) must be conducted thoroughly and not based on the perception of who we think is guilty," he said in his speech at the Public Service Department peer guides' Madani Aspirations gathering at Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.

Anwar said he had called up the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain and federal police Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain regarding the matter.

He said that he had asked them to "find a way in their investigation, but not to simply punish people."

"I may be the prime minister, but I am also human.

"I want to know why this happened, where a child was abused and murdered."
