KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 13,846 road users have used the Quick Response (QR) code system for bus and motorcycle services at the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Sultan Abu Bakar complex (KSAB) in Gelang Patah, Johor.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said some 117,000 users have also downloaded the application.
"The trial process for QR codes for buses and motorcycles has been running smoothly since it was initiated on June 1.
"The department is also in the final stages of streamlining the QR code application requirement to ensure a smooth rollout.
"Meanwhile, the same trial process is being conducted at the CIQ Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) complex," he said in a statement, today.
Previously, it was reported that Malaysians travelling to Singapore could begin using QR codes for immigration clearance at the CIQ complexes at BSI and KSAB, starting June 1. (reference: https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/05/1055916/updated-easing-causew...)
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the first phase of the QR code implementation would involve Malaysians travelling to Singapore by bus at BSI and motorcyclists using the automated MBike Immigration clearance system at KSAB.
He said the introduction of the QR codes at BSI and KSAB will be a "game changer" in addressing congestion at both Malaysian and Singapore entry points.
At the same time, Ruslin said that the use of QR codes for immigration checks was also in the proof-of-concept trial process for three months.
He added that during the period, the use of QR codes would only involve Malaysians who use bus and motorcycle services at KSAB and bus services at BSI.
"The department will also continue to be committed to ensuring that the implementation of QR codes at both KSAB and BSI CIQ will run smoothly to facilitate the entry and exit movement at the Malaysia-Singapore border."
