KUALA LUMPUR: Worried about her child's studies, a mother sacrificed her time to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) to motivate her son.
Norazah Spiji, 48, said she did so to change the habits of her son, Muhammad Haziq Asyraf, who preferred playing video games and was always on his mobile phone instead of studying.
She joined private classes and engaged tutors to prepare for nine subjects in the examination.
"My intention is to teach my son and give him motivation. He only likes playing games using his phone until late at night.
"I tell him to study, but he refuses. I tried thinking of many ways to teach him, but I'm not so smart myself.
"Seeing that my son is in boarding school, this is one way I can help and at the same time, I can teach him using the notes that I have," she said.
Norazah, who hails from Sarikei, Sarawak, said she did not expect to obtain 3As, 3Bs, 2Cs, and 1D in her SPM results.
She received an A- for Bahasa Melayu, and an A for history and mathematics.
"I feel very happy and thankful. I didn't expect to get that many As. My friends also said the same. I am truly surprised.
"I didn't even think that I would get an A for mathematics, especially at my age, I am forgetful. But I still tried," she added.
Thanks to her hard work and sacrifice, her son, who failed in six papers during the SPM trials, received 3As.
"I hope my son will be more successful in the future. Thank you to all teachers who have helped me," she said in a TikTok video uploaded by user Sir Race.
