[UPDATED] IGP: Minister's son arrested for criminal intimidation secretly wed in Thailand last year

KUALA LUMPUR: Police today confirmed that the marriage certificate involving the son of a federal minister and the woman he allegedly threatened after she asked him to take responsibility for her pregnancy is valid.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the couple is believed to have secretly married in Thailand in September last year.

"Our investigations showed that the couple were in love and wanted to get married.

"Perhaps they faced obstacles, which is why they chose to marry in Thailand," he told reporters after attending an appreciation ceremony for distinguished police personnel today.

Razarudin said the investigation into the criminal intimidation case had been completed, and the investigation paper had been referred to the deputy public prosecutor in Penang.

"It is now in the hands of the deputy public prosecutor, and we are awaiting further instructions on the matter," he said.

It was reported that police completed investigations into a criminal intimidation case involving the son of a federal minister.

Razarudin had been quoted saying that the investigation paper had been handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions on Jan 6 after a police report was lodged by the complainant on Jan 1.

The deputy public prosecutor had instructed the investigation officer to obtain a report of the pregnancy examination of the woman who is said to have been threatened by the minister's son.

Initial investigations revealed that the minister's son married the woman in September last year.

Claims that a minister's son threatened a woman who asked him to take responsibility for her pregnancy earlier went viral on social media.

The incident allegedly occurred when the minister's son was talking with the woman and several other witnesses at a house in Telok Air Tawar, Butterworth, Penang, on Dec 24 last year.

The case was investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation
