KUANTAN: A 14-year-old girl, who disappeared at Genting Highlands on Dec 31, was on vacation at the popular hilltop resort when she failed to return home.
Nur Hidayatul Iman Abdullah, a Form Two student, was last seen in front of a restaurant at Genting Highlands on New Year's Eve.
She had travelled there with friends and was staying at an apartment at Genting View.
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman confirmed that the family reported her missing on Jan 3 after efforts to locate her were unsuccessful.
"Initial investigations revealed she was not abducted and might have followed a friend. The CCTV recordings from the apartment and nearby premises are currently being reviewed by a team of investigators to track down the missing girl," he told reporters after attending the Pahang police monthly gathering at the police contingent headquarters here today (Jan 13).
Authorities have also interviewed her friends and family to gather further details about her disappearance.
"We have recorded statements from her friends and family to shed light on her whereabouts."
Meanwhile, Pahang police are also investigating the case of 14-year-old Tan Joon Tien, who went missing at Cameron Highlands on Dec 28.
Tan was reportedly staying at a hostel in Tringkap with several others when he disappeared early that morning.
"We are determining how Tan left the hostel. We are questioning several individuals, including his friends, to see if he had shared any information before going missing."
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from various locations in the highlands to help locate him.
Yesterday, Tan's mother, identified only as Sarina, had appealed for help in locating her son, who went missing at 4am while attending a Buddhist ceremony.
She said that her son went missing early in the morning, and they have been desperately trying to find him.
Yahaya urged anyone with information on the teenagers who have been missing for more than 10 days to come forward.
