2 civil servants among 3 nabbed in probe into permit applications

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested three more people as part of an ongoing investigation into graft allegations related to commercial vehicle inspections.

The three comprise two women and a man in their 30s.

Two of those arrested are attached to a government agency, while the third is a former officer of the agency.

According to a source, the trio are believed to be involved in corrupt practices for securing approval letters for carrier licence class permits (LKP) without meeting the required conditions.

The suspects were arrested yesterday evening after having their statements recorded at MACC's headquarters in Putrajaya.

The latest arrests follow MACC's Intelligence Division's earlier detention of eight people, including four company directors and a government agency director, as part of Op Loader.

"Agency officers are believed to have colluded with companies which provided false information, including banking statements, to facilitate the securing of the LKP approval letters."

The agency officers also facilitated the application process, enabling ineligible commercial vehicles to undergo vehicle inspections at Puspakom, said the source.

The source added that, based on intelligence gathered so far, the agency officers accepted bribes ranging from RM3,000 to RM20,000, depending on the make and age of the vehicle applying for the LKP.

When contacted, MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrests.

The case is being investigated under Sections 16 and 17 of the MACC Act for soliciting and accepting gratification.
