MERSING: A man was charged in the Mersing Magistrate's Court today with the murder of a lorry driver whose body was found in the boot of a car last month.
The accused, Hasbullah Adam, 36, also a lorry driver, nodded to indicate his understanding of the charge read before Magistrate Nurkhalida Farhana Abu Bakar.
No plea was recorded, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Hasbullah is accused of murdering Shakirin Mohammad, 28, between 6.10am on Dec 26 and 1.50pm on Dec 28 at the roadside of Jalan Jemaluang-Kahang, Mersing.
If found guilty, he could be sentenced to death.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Foo Fang Leong led the prosecution, while Azlan Bohari represented the accused. The court set Feb 27 for the next proceedings.
On Dec 28, a 28-year-old local man's body, with injuries to the neck, was found in the boot of his Proton Waja at Kilometre 26 of Jalan Jemaluang-Kahang.
Mersing District Police Chief Superintendent Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said revenge was believed to be the motive.
