KUALA LUMPUR: Police seized 13.3kg of heroin worth RM1.2 million in two separate raids in Selangor this week.
Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department Director Datuk Seri Khaw Kok Chin said police arrested a 48-year-old man during the first raid in Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya, on Monday.
They discovered 20 compressed blocks, also suspected to be heroin base drugs, weighing an estimated 7.4kg in the suspect's car.
"A background check revealed that the suspect has one prior criminal record related to drugs under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
"Initial urine screening showed that the suspect tested negative for drugs.
"He has been remanded for seven days under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, from Dec 24 to 30, 2024," Khaw said in a statement today.
In the second raid in Puchong, yesterday, 16 compressed blocks suspected to be heroin, estimated to weigh 5.9kg were found.
He said the total weight of the seized drugs is estimated at 13.3kg and could be used by approximately 900,000 drug addicts.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The offence carries a life sentence and no fewer than 12 strokes of the rotan.
Investigations are ongoing to track down other syndicate members who are still at large.
