IPOH: Police detained three people believed to be members of a gang specialising in stealing chickens in and around Tapah.
They also recovered 66 open-weave baskets full of stolen chickens worth about RM27,000 on Monday.
Tapah district police chief Superintendent Mohd Naim Asnawi said the three suspects, aged between 33 and 43, were detained between 3pm and 6pm on Dec 23 at a house and office in Rawang, Selangor.
"Investigations revealed that they were part of a gang involved in stealing chickens. Two of the suspects were tasked with stealing the chickens while the third would be responsible for packing them in plastic bags.
"The suspects would then transport the stolen chickens using a rented lorry or one of their own trucks before selling them at a market in Rawang.
"With the arrest of the three suspects, police believe that six cases in Tapah have been solved," he said when contacted today.
He added that one of the three suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine.
Mohd Naim said the suspects will be remanded for between two and four days to facilitate investigations.
