AYER KEROH: A company manager has been remanded for three days for investigation into a case of soliciting and accepting a bribe of RM375,000 to secure a Datuk Seri title two years ago.
The remand order, issued by magistrate Nabilah Nizam, is effective from today until Thursday.
It is to allow the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to complete its investigation.
Sources revealed that the 54-year-old man was arrested at 5.10pm yesterday at the MACC Melaka office while providing a statement about the bribery allegation, which involved a money transfer from an individual.
The case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009, which imposes a penalty of five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is greater, and carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years upon conviction.
