KUALA LUMPUR: The Customs Department has seized RM1.56 million worth of drugs following the arrest of two men at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Department Central Zone assistant director-general Norlela Ismail said they seized 31kg of ketamine following checks of both men on Nov 1 and Nov 2.
"On Nov 1, our personnel from the KLIA passenger inspection division checked an 18-year-old man at the arrival hall at Terminal 1.
"The man had arrived on an international flight from Europe," she said, adding that scans of his luggage revealed suspicious images.
A thorough check of his luggage revealed several packets containing a crystal substance believed to be ketamine.
"The 16.91kg of drugs were hidden inside food and drink boxes.
"We estimate the drugs to be worth RM845,670," she said.
Norlela said the following day, her personnel checked a 22-year-old man at Terminal 1 who also arrived from Europe.
"We checked his luggage and found 14.18kg of the same drugs worth RM709,030.
"Our investigation revealed that both suspects were hired by the same syndicate," she said, adding that both suspects were remanded to help with further investigations.
