Police inspector charged with falsifying documents in drug case investigation

TAWAU: A police inspector was charged in the magistrate's court today with three counts of falsifying documents related to an investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act last September.

Crall Mark Bait pleaded not guilty to all charges, which were presented before Magistrates Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin and Don Stiwin Malanjum.

Crall has been accused of falsifying official documents, specifically conversation recordings by three policemen, including a sergeant and a corporal, under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

These documents were part of the Tawau Narcotics Crime Investigation Paper JSJN/ADB/1005/23.

The offences allegedly occurred at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Tawau police headquarters between 10am and 2pm on Sept 10 last year.

The accused was charged under Section 466 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to seven years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Shearil Aizad Murnizam proposed bail at RM5,000 for each charge, with two local guarantors.

The accused, who was unrepresented, requested a reduced bail, explaining that he had been suspended from work for over a year, earning only RM700 monthly, and needed to support his family, including a young child.

The magistrates set bail at RM5,300 for all charges with two local guarantors and scheduled Jan 2 and 6, 2025, for document submission and case management.
