KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating an alleged case of animal cruelty involving three cats found dead with injuries at a student residence in Setapak, an incident that has gone viral on social media.
Wangsa Maju district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Lazim Ismail, in a statement today, confirmed that a report has been lodged over the incident.
"The incident is believed to have occurred on Nov 17, after a student informed the security guard regarding three cats found dead with bloodied head injuries on the stairs of a student residence," he said.
As such, Lazim said, the case has been classified under Section 428 of the Penal Code committing mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming, or rendering useless, any animals.
A social media post by an animal welfare group said that based on information received, a witness reported seeing three cats dead with stab wounds to their heads between 5pm and 6pm on Nov 18.
The group added that when the matter was discovered, the blood at the scene had already dried, suggesting that the incident might have occurred several hours earlier.
They also urged the authorities to take the matter seriously and carry out investigations into the case.
