ALOR STAR: The Padi and Rice Regulatory Board (PKB) has seized 307 metric tons of padi from a milling plant in Kedah for failing to produce a valid permit for transferring the crop from Selangor.
In a statement today, Kedah PKB said the seizure followed a tip-off, prompting a team to inspect the plant around 2.30pm yesterday.
"Upon inspection, it was found that the plant held bulk padi weighing approximately 307,591.20kg, purchased from Selangor," the statement read.
"The plant owner failed to provide the necessary documents to justify possession of the padi. The crop, valued at RM399,868.56, was subsequently seized."
The miller faces a potential fine of up to RM25,000 if convicted under Act 522 of the Padi and Rice Regulatory Act.
