KUALA LUMPUR: A couple and their four-year-old daughter were killed, while their one-year-old son survived, after their motorcycle lost control while trying to overtake a stationary lorry on the Duke Highway.
City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the lorry had stopped due to a starter malfunction. Another lorry was parked behind it to facilitate the transfer of goods from the broken-down vehicle during the 7.20am incident.
"A motorcycle approached from behind, attempting to overtake other vehicles, but failed to avoid the stationary lorry and collided with it while the goods were being unloaded.
"The lorry owner and workers had placed five safety cones, and two workers were there to manage the unloading process.
"A witness reported that the motorcyclist lost control of his machine while overtaking and hit the stationary lorry," he said in a statement.
Rusdi said the 37-year-old rider, his 27-year-old wife, and their daughter were laid to rest at the Ukay Perdana Muslim Cemetery following a post-mortem which concluded at around 2.30pm.
He said the surviving child is being treated at the Selayang Hospital.
