[UPDATED] Post-mortem exam on woman in freezer delayed, body still thawing

KUALA LUMPUR:  The Universiti Malaya Medical Centre forensic department needs more time to complete its post-mortem examination on the body of the elderly woman who was found stuffed in a freezer at Taman OUG.

Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the process was complex and would take more time than expected because of the condition of the body.

"They need to wait for the body to fully thaw before the post-mortem examination can be completed.

"On the outside, the body may look like it has thawed out but the internal organs require more time," he told reporters today.

He said police would likely extend the remand on the suspect who is currently in police custody.

"Seeing that the suspect's medical condition has not improved, the doctors need more time to conduct a proper evaluation of him.

"This evaluation involves his physical and mental state," he said.

Ku Mashariman added that to date, police have taken statements from five individuals including the policemen who received the information on the case as well as neighbours.

It was reported that the man who was arrested over the body found in a freezer at a house in Taman OUG here was remanded for a week.

The suspect would be under remand from Nov 13 to 19 to assist in investigations.

The suspect had made several claims, including that he was the victim's son.

Police took the suspect's fingerprints and DNA samples for verification.

It was previously reported that the man allegedly killed his elderly mother after she refused to embrace his religious beliefs.

The body was found in the freezer after the suspect confessed to the crime.

Authorities believe the victim, who was in her 80s, was beaten to death in March 2021, before being wrapped in a towel and plastic sheets and placed in the freezer at the suspect's double-storey terrace house.
