GEORGE TOWN: A trader has been remanded for a week for investigation after two pistols and ammunition were seized from him yesterday.
Acting northeast district police chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake confirmed that the 48-year-old man was arrested at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here.
Following information provided by the suspect, police found the firearms and ammunition inside his vehicle.
"Yes, the man was arrested yesterday and has been remanded today for further investigation.
"We have not found any licence permitting him to possess the pistols and ammunition. The investigation is ongoing," he said.
Lee also revealed that the suspect had several past criminal records.
The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
