[UPDATED] GISB: Woman charged with 10 counts of child exploitation

KLANG: A 44-year-old woman linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business (GISB) Holdings Sdn Bhd was charged at the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Sessions Court here today with 10 counts of child exploitation last month.

Asmat @ Asmanira Muhamad Ramly claimed trial to all the charges that were read to her by the court interpreter before Judge Zulqarnain Hassan. 

According to the charge sheet, Asmat is accused of trafficking 10 children, aged eight, for the purpose of exploitation in unlawful activities at the Cahaya Kasih Bestari Care Centre in Kampung Melayu Subang here on Sept 11.

She was charged under Section 415 of the Penal Code, which is punishable under Section 417 of the same code, as well as Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Anisah Pisol, in today's proceedings, requested a joint trial for all of the cases.

Anisah also did not offer any bail since the accused was arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act, also known as Sosma.

Lawyer Muhd Zaim Rosli who represented the accused did not object to Anisah's application.

Meanwhile at the magistrate's court, another woman linked to GISB was charged with taking part in the management of an unregistered care centre known as Pusat Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Pendidikan Al-Mahabbah.

The woman, 54, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to her before Magistrate Amirul Asyraf Abd Rasid. 

She was charged with committing the offence at Bandar Bukit Raja here at 6.30pm on Sept 11.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Nadia Syuhada Rosli prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer Muhd Zaim Rosli.

Both cases have been set for mention on Dec 13.
