KUALA MUDA: A 48-year-old cook died when her Perodua Axia crashed into the rear of an excavator along Jalan Lencong Timur, Sungai Petani, today.
The victim, Zuraini Murad, died on the spot from severe head injuries in the 5.30am incident.
District police chief assistant commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the victim is believed to have lost control of her vehicle before crashing into the excavator.
He said they were both travelling from Taman Batik towards Bukit Bayan.
"Preliminary findings showed the victim was driving on the right lane and crashed straight into the excavator.
"As a result of the impact, the driver sustained head injuries and was confirmed to have died at the location," he said in a statement today.
Wan Azharuddin said the body was sent to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for post-mortem while the excavator operator did not suffer any injury.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and all vehicles involved have been seized for further inspection.
