ALOR STAR: A restaurant in Sungai Petani has been slapped with a temporary closure order after a customer was served with maggot-infested salted egg.
State Health Department director Dr Ismuni Bohari said action was taken after the department was alerted to the issue through the Penduduk Sungai Petani Facebook page yesterday.
He said the restaurant was inspected after the department verified the incident with the complainant.
"The state Health Department, through the Kuala Muda District Health Office, carried out an investigation on Oct 16 and found that the eatery failed to comply with hygiene requirements under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 of the Food Act 1983.
"The eatery was issued with a compound under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 and a temporary closure order under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983," he said today.
Dr Ismuni said the department would conduct another inspection after the eatery carried out a clean-up and took corrective measures.
In the 13-second video uploaded to the Facebook page, a woman is seen showing the maggots coming out from a salted egg she was eating.
The woman said she was eating her meal when she noticed the maggots in the salted egg.
In the caption of the post, she said the eatery's server took the plate away and told her she did not need to pay for the meal, but did not apologise.
The video has received 13,000 views since it was uploaded on Tuesday.
