KUALA LUMPUR: The mother of the suspect who attacked the police station in Ulu Tiram, Johor, in May claimed trial to one charge of intentionally omitting information relating to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group that she was supposed to provide to the authorities.
Singaporean Rosna Jantan, 59, entered her plea after saying she understood the charge before High Court judge Datuk Noorin Badaruddin.
She was accused of deliberately omitting information that she was legally compelled to give on the offences of knowingly supporting IS, and inciting or promoting the commission of a terrorist act.
She committed the offence between April 2017 and May 17 this year at a house in Kampung Sungai Tiram in Johor Baru.
She faces a maximum jail term of seven years and fine, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Yazid Mustaqim Roslan said Rosna was represented by lawyer Faizal Rahman when she was charged at the Johor Bahru Sessions Court.
"This morning, the prosecution was informed that Faizal is unable to attend the proceedings today as he did not receive a notice.
"Previously, she was charged along with several others and the case was set for mention before High Court judge Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid on Oct 23.
"The prosecution wants to apply for the case to be transferred to this court. Therefore, we ask for a case management (for this charge) to be set on a later date to enable the case to be mentioned first," he said.
The court set Nov 12 for case management.
Rosna, when asked by the judge if she was still represented by the same lawyer, said yes.
On June 19, Rosna, along with her husband Radin Imran Radin Mohd Yassin, 62, and their three children Radin Romyullah Radin Imran, 34, Farhah Sobrina Radin Imran, 23, and Mariah Radin Imran, 19, were charged at the Johor Baru Sessions Court with terrorism related offences.
On May 17 at 2.54am, a 21-year-old man stormed into the Ulu Tiram police station armed with a gun and parang and killed Constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Constable Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24.
Another police officer, Mohd Hanif Roslan, was critically injured.
The attacker identified as Radin Luqman Radin Imran was shot dead.
