BUKIT KAYU HITAM: Firemen rescued 24 victims, including three children, who were trapped in floodwaters at Kampung Kubang Kayu here today.
Bukit Kayu Hitam Fire and Rescue Station chief Zulkifli Manaf said a team was despatched to the location after receiving distress calls at 10.51am.
"Upon arrival, we found 24 victims trapped, consisting of 21 adults and three children.
"Evacuation efforts were carried out, and all the victims were successfully rescued and relocated to a temporary flood relief centre," he said when contacted.
He said water levels in the area were receding, and monitoring efforts were ongoing to ensure no victims remained trapped.
In a separate incident, 13 flood victims trapped in Kampung Paya Tok Betok, Kulim, were also rescued at 8am.
Kulim Fire and Rescue Department chief Hamizul Azwan Hamdan said upon arriving at the location, they found that 11 victims, including two disabled people who were paralysed, had been rescued by civilians.
"While conducting monitoring efforts, the fire and rescue department received information that two disabled victims were trapped.
"Meanwhile, three other areas, Lorong Temengong, Taman Anggerik, and Kampung Padang Tembak, were also affected by floods, but no one was trapped. Monitoring is still being carried out to ensure no further victims are involved," he added.
Additionally, Jitra Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Bustan Karudin said an 80-year-old woman from Kampung Kota Mengkuang had been evacuated to a flood evacuation centre after her house was inundated.
