JOHOR BAHU: A school bus driver who uploaded to TikTok a video of a primary school student and referred to her as his "crush" has been remanded.
The five-day remand order was granted by magistrate Suhaila Safi'uddin at the Batu Pahat magistrate's court today.
The 24-year-old bus driver was remanded under Section 15(a)(III) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017 and Section 15(2) of the Child Act 2001.
A lawyer from the Batu Pahat National Legal Aid Foundation represented the suspect.
Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar said the suspect was arrested by Kluang police at 2.57am.
Police seized a phone that the suspect is believed to have used to upload the video in question.
A TikTok video showing a man calling a primary school pupil his "crush" went viral recently.
The video sparked backlash, with many saying his behaviour was inappropriate and could be considered sexual harassment.
Taking photos or videos of children without parental consent violates the Child Act 2001.
The video was recorded while the suspect was driving the school bus and the pupil's face was visible.
