GUA MUSANG: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be charged under the Sedition Act at the Sessions Court here today for allegedly raising sensitive issues related to race, religion, and royalty in his speech during the campaigning for the Nenggiri state seat by-election.
Kelantan Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Datuk Kamaruddin Md Noor, when contacted, confirmed the matter.
"Yes, Tan Sri Muhyiddin will be charged today at the Gua Musang Court in connection with his speech during the Nenggiri by-election," he said.
Kamaruddin said seven lawyers, including Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, as well as Muhyiddin's personal and party lawyers, would represent him.
"We have assembled a team of lawyers to defend Tan Sri (Muhyiddin). There are seven lawyers, but we may add more as we sometimes need experts in human rights.
"Takiyuddin is among the team, and Tan Sri also has personal lawyers, including those from Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional, so they will work together.
"Which lawyer will lead depends on Tan Sri," he said.
The PN chairman, who is also Bersatu president, was investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 504 of the Penal Code.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain had previously said that police had recorded statements from 66 witnesses to assist the investigation.
It was reported that Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah expressed his anger and deep regret at Muhyiddin's actions which he described as deliberately belittling and disputing the duties and role of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah during his reign as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
In a statement issued by Istana Abdulaziz on Aug 18, Tengku Hassanal wants the police to take decisive action without compromise against the PN chairman for touching on 3R issues.
Last Wednesday, Muhyiddin handed over several documents to the police during a one-hour session to assist in the investigation into his statements that allegedly touched on 3R issues.
This process took place at his office located in the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) building.
