PETALING JAYA: A man who stopped near a petrol station to rest along the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) was robbed by a group of armed assailants.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said the incident occurred at around 4.30am on Monday.
"We received a report from a 41-year-old man who claimed he had been travelling along the NKVE heading south when he decided to stop to rest near a petrol station.
"The victim was attacked by at least seven men armed with sticks and machetes," he said when contacted on Monday.
He said the victim suffered injuries to his head and hands in the attack.
"The victim claimed that he was robbed of a necklace and cash worth RM15,000.
"We have opened investigations under Section 395 and Section 397 of the Penal Code for gang and armed robbery with the intent of causing death or grievous hurt," he said.
He said police were now working on tracing the identities of the suspects involved as well as what vehicles they used in the incident.
The incident follows another case which occurred near a petrol station along the Kesas Expressway nearly two weeks ago.
A video of that incident, which occured on Aug 7, was posted on Facebook.
The 46-second video, believed to be dashcam footage from the complainant's vehicle, showed it driving out from a petrol station at night when another car passed it.
Shortly after, a motorcyclist rode out of another petrol station and blocked the complainant's vehicle.
The rider got off the motorcycle and approached the other vehicle, which was parked in front of it, opening the back door of the vehicle and grabbing an object.
He then ran towards the complainant's vehicle as it tried to flee the scene.
Other people were also seen getting out of the parked car.
Four of the suspects in that case were arrested on the same day.
One of the suspects was charged on Aug 13, under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing damage while the others were released and made witnesses to the prosecution.
