CHUKAI: A security guard falsely reported a robbery yesterday as he was afraid of angering his wife for spending his entire salary.
He had claimed to police that he was robbed by two men.
Police investigations revealed that he had spent his entire salary and lent money to a female friend.
Kemaman police chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said the 65-year-old man's lie was exposed after an investigation.
"The man claimed that he withdrew money at a petrol station in Kijal. He claimed that on his way home to Teluk Kalong, his car was stopped by a Rohingya man who asked for help to take his friend, who was lying down, to a clinic.
"He claimed that when he got out of the vehicle, the Rohingya man pointed a knife at his back, while the man who was lying down stood up and pointed a machete at his stomach."
He said the security guard claimed that the Rohingya men took RM1,100 from his pocket, then fled on a motorcycle.
After an investigation, the man admitted that the robbery never happened.
"He made the false report because he was desperate and afraid to tell his wife that he had spent his entire salary, including their living expenses."
The case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for giving a public servant information known to be false.
