CHUKAI: Three policemen attached to the Kemaman police headquarters have been detained over missing Yamaha RXZ motorcycle parts.
The three were allegedly linked to the disappearance of a Yamaha RXZ motorcycle component from the station's evidence storage facility at the Kemaman district police headquarters last Tuesday.
Chukai police chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said the suspects, aged between 26 and 32, were detained after police discovered that a motorcycle engine from a Yamaha RXZ motorcycle was missing from the facility.
"We conducted an investigation and subsequently detained the three for further questioning," Hanyan said, adding that the suspects' four-day remand ends today.
He said during interrogation, it was revealed that two of the three suspects owned the same model motorcycle and were avid fans of the model.
Hanyan said the case was being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for theft.
He said no one was above the law and police would not tolerate anyone who abused their power and breached the trust the public had in them.
