JOHOR BARU: Three men have been arrested for recklessly riding their motorcycles following a crackdown on illegal motorcycle racing along Jalan Skudai near Lido beach.
During the operations on Sunday, a teenager was also arrested for riding a motorcycle with a fake licence plate.
Johor Baru Selatan (JBS) district police chief assistant commissioner Raub Selamat said the operation was conducted between 5pm and 11pm involving one police inspector and seven personnel from the JBS Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department.
"They checked 56 individuals and 51 vehicles during the operations.
"A total of 78 summonses were issued while 22 motorcycles were seized under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act," he said in a statement on Monday.
He said among the offences the summonses were issued for included not having a valid drivers license and installing illegal modifications.
"Three men aged between 24 and 30 were arrested for reckless riding while a 16-year-old male suspect was also arrested for riding a motorcycle with a fake licence plate.
We are investigating these individuals under Section 42(1) and Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act for driving recklessly and dangerously and exhibiting an altered licence plate on a vehicle respectively," he said.
Raub advised motorists to refrain from taking part in illegal racing.
"These activities bring no benefit and only pose danger to road users," he said.
