Former Home Ministry principal assistant secretary fails to get graft charges dropped

KUALA LUMPUR: A former Home Ministry official will go on trial over the submission of false claims after his application to the attorney-general to drop the charges was rejected.

Former principal assistant secretary Ku Aznal Shahri Ku Abd Hamid is facing 11 charges of submitting false claims of about RM6,000.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Shahrom Idris told the Sessions Court today that the Attorney-General's Chambers had dismissed Ku Aznal's representation.

"A total of 24 witnesses will testify. They are all Malaysians. We have submitted all the documents," Shahrom said.

Defence counsel Tabian Tahir said Ku Aznal maintained his not guilty plea.

Tabian informed the court that his client is still a civil servant and is not suspended.

Judge Rozina Ayob set Oct 7 to 10 and Nov 18 to 21 for the trial.

On March 20, Ku Aznal claimed trial to submitting 10 claims containing false details — totalling RM5,720.30 — to the ministry.l

He allegedly committed the offences between May 2 and 7, 2018 at the ministry's information technology management division.
