KUALA LUMPUR: The police have arrested a 31-year-old local man suspected of murdering his wife allegedly due to marital problems.
South Klang district police chief assistant commissioner Cha Hoong Fong said the suspect has been remanded for seven days from June 8 to 14.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, he said.
Cha said the police had received a distress call from the suspect's brother, reporting that the man, a lorry driver, had killed his 28-year-old wife at their home in Palma Apartment, Bandar Botanik, Klang, Selangor.
"Initial investigations found that the incident occurred at around 7am and checks revealed that the victim, a local female, was lying on the bed with slash wounds on her neck and right hand.
"The investigation revealed that the suspect and the victim had experienced marital problems ever since they got married.
"The autopsy on the victim revealed 12 incised and slash wounds on the left ear, left cheek, left chin, neck, right shoulder, right forearm, left ring finger, left little finger, and the left side of the head.
"The cause of death was a slash wound on the neck that cut through the skin, subcutaneous tissue, left neck muscle, respiratory tract, and neck bone," he said in a statement.
He said several witnesses, including close family members, would be called in.
The suspect had been married to the victim, a factory worker, for two years.
The couple has a six-month-old daughter.
The investigation paper would be referred to the deputy public prosecutor soon, he said.
