KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran actress Azah Aziz, fondly remembered for her roles in 1990s dramas, recently celebrated her 30th wedding anniversary, proving that celebrity marriages, even those involving foreign spouses, can withstand the test of time.
The 53-year-old actress, whose full name is Norazah Aziz, shared that a lasting marriage depends on the couple's ability to navigate challenges together, no matter what the nationality of the spouse.
"It's not just celebrities who marry foreigners, ordinary people do too, and many of their marriages last a lifetime.
"On the other hand, some couples who marry within their own race still struggle to sustain their relationships," she told BH Online.
Azah emphasised that the success of a marriage depends on the couple's efforts to maintain harmony.
"It's up to the couple to ensure their household is a happy one."
Azah also took to Instagram to share photos of her anniversary celebration with her husband, Daud Leroy Abdullah.
Reflecting on their three decades together, she revealed that patience and compromise are key to their enduring relationship.
"To make a marriage last, you need patience, understanding, and tolerance.
"We never impose strict limits on each other but respect boundaries.
"He supports my career, and I do the same for him," she said.
Azah admitted that early in their marriage, she sacrificed her acting career to move abroad with her husband.
However, the couple faced challenges, including moments when their relationship was on the brink of collapse.
"There was a time I wanted to leave and return to Malaysia. But my husband convinced me to talk things through.
"Communication is the foundation of any marriage. If something bothers you, address it immediately.
"Bottling up feelings will only cause bigger issues later," she said.
