#SHOWBIZ: Che Ta's debt-related auction postponed

KUALA LUMPUR: The public auction of items belonging to actress and entrepreneur Rozita Che Wan, which was supposed to be held this morning, has been postponed to a new date to be announced later.

According to a lawyer representing Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), who declined to be identified, the action was taken following the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court allowing Rozita's application as the defendant to postpone the process, according to Kosmo! Online.

"Assalamualaikum, the court has postponed the public auction.

"A further date will be set in the future and will depend on court orders," the lawyer said.

It is understood that the auction would involve 34 items belonging to Rozita, or Che Ta, 51, worth RM902,012.46.

Among Che Ta's items that were to be auctioned off to the public included a Haval SUV, furniture, and electronic appliances such as a refrigerator, air conditioner, oven, microwave, washing machine, dryer, vacuum, and television.

On Dec 10, Che Ta's residence was reportedly raided by Mara officers along with lawyers and court representatives following allegations that she had failed to repay a loan worth almost RM1 million.

It is understood that Che Ta took out a loan with the agency in 2017, but allegedly never paid the loan.

Mara's legal division has initiated bankruptcy proceedings against Rozita and her eldest son, Ammar Effendy, 28, who co-signed the loan.

Mara claims the auction is a last resort after multiple failed attempts to recover the outstanding debt.

Meanwhile, Rozita addressed the allegations on Instagram, denying claims that she has not repaid her Mara loan since 2017.

In her post, she stated that she plans to reveal the truth in the future.

"Please check your facts or get accurate news. One day, I will release a statement to explain the real situation," she wrote.
